Disney has been holding out on us as far as Marvel Cinematic Universe tie-in games go, but according to a recent interview with one actor, there’s a good chance there may be one in the works…
There have been some Marvel Cinematic Universe games over the years. A handful, at best.
That is, of course, once you cut out all of the VR games and the mobile game slop that Disney has been producing, at which point you’re left with… uhh, those two Iron Man games and the half-decent Captain America: Super Soldier, the absolute travesty that was Thor: The Dark World - The Official Game, and I guess maybe LEGO Marvel's Avengers.
So, what’s the deal? Why is Disney so unwilling to invest in a big-budget, MCU tie-in title?

That probably has a little something to do with the critical and commercial failure of Marvel's Avengers, which isn’t a direct tie-in to the MCU, but does feature the Avengers’ roster and a bunch of voice actors clearly trying their best to parrot the actors from the films.
The flop that is Marvel's Avengers probably scared Disney away from pursuing further projects, although it seems like the upcoming title Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is a potential step in the right direction.
However, it sounds like Disney is still toying with the idea of a new MCU game… but it also sounds like it may have already been cancelled.
As stated in an article by IGN’s Rebekah Valentine, Kumail Nanjiani, who starred as Kingo in the 2021 MCU film Eternals, revealed on the Working It Out podcast that he signed on to reprise his role in a video game– although it seems as if said project is dead in the water.

Nanjiani stated that he’d signed on for “six movies, a video game, a theme park ride”, but followed this up by saying, “And then none of that happened.”
There is a chance that Nanjiani may have been in talks to lend his voice to something like the VR title What If...? – An Immersive Story, or even that he might have voiced Kingo in something like Marvel Rivals, but unfortunately we’ll likely never know what project Disney was cooking up.
Alternatively, it could be that Disney is looking into a proper, AAA-budget MCU video game, and that the character Kingo simply never made the cut (following Eternals’ disappointing performance).
Perhaps we’ll hear something big in the next few months, but I wouldn’t hold your breath. If Avengers: Doomsday manages to bring MCU fans back to the cinema though… then maybe there really is a chance.
