MCU fans united over prequel we've all been dying for

We'd love to see it

Marvel Studios is sleeping on a great idea by not having a film/TV series set during the Winter Soldier years, according to fans.

Bucky Barnes, AKA The Winter Soldier, has become an important part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent years. He inadvertently caused the events of Captain America: Civil War, helped Sam Wilson on his journey as the new Captain America, and will now lead the Thunderbolts in a new film.

Don’t miss the trailer for the Thunderbolts film below, it looks like they cooked with this one.

However Bucky’s past is arguably more interesting than his future, as prior to his reunion with Steve Rogers in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, he acted as Hydra’s best assassin.

“There’s a story to tell about the lost Winter Soldier years, why is Marvel pretending not to get it?” said one fan on X, and it’s an incredibly good point.

This had fans torn a bit, as some believe there’s no point revisiting the past whereas others would just like the mystery to remain as it is.

“I think Marvel did what they wanted to do with that. The MCU is years ahead of that era in the timeline, I don’t think they’re itching to go backwards,” said one commenter.

Another added, “[To be fair] I think this is one of those cases where leaving it a mystery is more interesting.”

Others made a good point that Bucky was brainwashed during this era, meaning his personality wouldn’t shine through, he’d just be a pawn.

He was also technically the villain so there’s not much of a story to tell when your protagonist is just murdering people left, right, and centre.

That said, it'd be good to hear about a few more of his exploits as the MCU continues, either as a flashback or featured as part of the dialogue.
