Jeremy Renner's MCU Return Gets Disappointing Update From Hawkeye Producer

If only there were some kind of Jeremy Renner fan app where we could complain about this...

The producer behind Disney’s Hawkeye TV series, as well as the upcoming Wonder Man show, has just dropped a disappointing update regarding Jeremy Renner’s return to the MCU.

Jeremy Renner has been having a bit of a rough go of things over the past three years, to put things lightly.

And by “a rough go of things”, I mean that he was run over by a snowplough on New Years day three years ago. Then, last year, he became the centre of an abuse scandal, following a series of accusations from director and artist Yi Zhou.

Considering this all followed the termination of his beloved Jeremy Renner Official app, it’s probably fair to say that it’s been a rough few years for those of you who consider yourselves to be Jeremy Renner fans.

In between all of this, Renner decided to publicly shame Disney for reportedly offering him a less-than-satisfactory sum to reprise his role as Clint Barton in a second season of Hawkeye.

In light of this, his chances of returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe looked bleak, until he stated in November last year, during an interview with Screen Rant, that he was still keen to reprise his role.

Well, we’ve gone from “we’re so back” to “it’s so over” once again, because the producer of the first season of Hawkeye has revealed that the chances of a second season aren’t looking too good.

In a recent interview with The Direct (thank you to GamesRadar+ for the source), Hawkeye producer and Wonder Man showrunner Andrew Guest stated that “the timing didn’t work out” on Marvel’s side of things.

“There was talk at a certain point about… we did explore creatively what Season 2 of 'Hawkeye' might be if we were able to do it,” Guest revealed.

“Unfortunately, the timing didn't work out in terms of Marvel and all the various pieces that need to come together, but I loved working on 'Hawkeye.' I think [Jeremy] Renner and Hailee Steinfeld are so terrific together, and I would love to see more of those two.”

Personally, while I’m sure there is some truth to what Guest is saying, I can’t help but wonder if Renner’s very public scandal with Yi Zhou and his open shaming of Disney has more to do with things than “timing.”

For now, it doesn’t seem like we’ll be seeing Renner return to the MCU at any point in the near future. There’s always a chance he might pop up in Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, but I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you.
