MCU fans torn as major recasts officially confirmed

Nothing lasts forever

Marvel fans are torn over the prospect of major MCU recasts, as confirmed by Kevin Feige.

There’s an old saying of “all good things must come to an end”, and that certainly rings true when it comes to the MCU. Fans who have been with the Marvel movies since 2008’s Iron Man have experienced a fair share of heartache.

The MCU has pulled at our heartstrings with the deaths of beloved characters, and I have no doubts that our hearts will need to mend plenty more times to come.

What’s more, due to circumstances outside of storyline reasons, characters might be recast due to age or just wanting to take on new challenges. So that’s why, for whatever reason, recasts are as inevitable as the “Mad Titan”, Thanos.

With that in mind, as reported by Variety, the president of the MCU, Kevin Feige, has warned Marvel fans to get ready for even more major recasts.

When talking about how Avengers: Secret Wars will serve as a reset, rather than a reboot, he suggested we’ll see a lot of new faces in the MCU’s version of X-Men.

“Amy Pascal and David Heyman are now searching for a new James Bond,” said Feige when referring to the next set of movies after Daniel Craig stepped away from the franchise in 2021’s No Time to Die. “David [Corenswet] is the new Superman, and he was awesome. That will always be the case.”

Kevin Feige went on to explain how difficult it can be to accept new actors playing the roles of already established characters, such as Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America.

“I think it’s hard for anybody to do that when an actor has done such a great role. How are they going to ever replace Sean Connery [as James Bond], right?”

The next MCU movie to arrive is The Fantastic Four: First Steps this week on Friday, 25 July. As for Avengers: Secret Wars, that is currently scheduled to be released on 17 December 2027.
