MCU fans unite over Iron Man 4 plot

It's just a blip

We never got an Iron Man 4, and we probably never will, seeing as Robert Downey Jr. has traded in his robotic suit for an iron mask and green cloak.

The trilogy of films we got was good enough, and though they came early in the MCU timeline, and could probably benefit from more up-to-date storytelling, that ship has sailed.

This hasn’t stopped fans from pondering what a fourth film would look like, especially if it had a grittier and more dramatic tone, kind of like Logan to Wolverine’s history.

One fan put forward this idea over on Reddit, asking how others would feel about an Iron Man film that took place during the ‘blip” also known as Thanos’ snap.

In their post, LollipopChainsawZz said, “I still think they could do a Logan style finale for the character. Set it during the blip. Everyone always says they want to see more of that time period. So let's see it through the eyes of Tony Stark. There must have been bad guys they didn't just all stop being bad due to the snap.”

This is an admirable suggestion, but one ultimately shot down by other fans who lay out their reasons as to why it wouldn’t work.

“I got the impression Tony hadn’t suited up much once he got back to earth,” remarked IRideMoreThanYou.

Another fan pointed out, “Endgame was his finale, no point in trying to pull a "Logan" type movie.”

One more fan added a counter-point, saying, “At this point, marvel needs to move forward and not backwards. I don’t think Tony has anything more to add to his story. I don’t think we need to keep revisiting the blip.”

Everyone wants to see more of their favourite characters, but returning to the well hasn’t done Marvel much good in recent years, so it’s time to let Tony Stark rest in peace.
