MCU Thor's Fate Officially Confirmed Ahead of Avengers: Doomsday

"Ugh, we’ve given the wrong impression here."

Chris Hemsworth, the actor behind the MCU’s Thor, has revealed in a recent interview that he may have accidentally given fans the wrong idea about the character’s future in the franchise.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to kill off a bunch of famous heroes in both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

How do we already know that? Because Kevin Feige himself straight up said as much in an interview last month.

Following Feige’s comments, a lot of fans cast their minds back to a video published on Chris Hemsworth’s official YouTube channel back in May, titled “Thank You! The Legacy of Thor”.

The video itself seems oddly sombre in tone, but it was the video description that set some alarm bells ringing.

“Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life. For the last 15 years I've held Mjolnir and then Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what made it truly special… was sharing it with all of you”, reads the description, penned by Hemsworth himself.

“Your passion, your cheers, and your love for this character have meant everything to me. Thank you for making my journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable.. Next up, Doomsday!”

After putting two and two together, it sounds an awful lot like Thor is going to die in the next set of Avengers films, no?

According to Hemsworth, this wasn’t the intent.

In a recently published interview with The Hollywood Reporter's Brian Davids, Hemsworth was asked about the video and whether or not it was trying to imply that Thor will be killed off in the upcoming films.

“It was certainly not the intent. To be honest, my social media team assembled some footage and were like, “Oh, this could be cool. We’ll put some stuff up and thank the fans.” And I was like, “Yeah, cool. It’s been great.” So we penned it together, and off I went to do something else”, Hemsworth revealed.

“But then I had a few people ask me about it, and someone on my team said, “Ugh, we’ve given the wrong impression here.” (Laughs.) We didn’t do any [damage control]; there was no damage control necessary. But a lot was read into a little… So [the video] was a moment of gratitude, and it wasn’t anything else. But it definitely got misconstrued and perceived in a different way.”

Obviously, Hemsworth isn’t going to straight up announce that Thor is going to die in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, but I believe he’s being sincere here.

That just makes the entire thing that much funnier though, as this little promo video clearly went through an entire PR team without a single person thinking, “hey, is it me, or does this sound like an obituary?”
