There’s a lot of Marvel news floating around at the moment and one big teaser appears to be that a part of the Marvel family will be rebooted very soon.

Ushering in the next phase of the MCU, rumoured to be the Mutant Saga, Marvel will be launching three films in 2028, a bumper year.

Speaking of Marvel team-ups, the Thunderbolts* is in cinemas next year

These will arrive hot on the heels of Avengers: Secret Wars which, if many are to be believed, will close the multiverse holes and bring in the age of the mutants.

You see, Secret Wars, the comic not the film, was launched to bring together all of Marvel’s separate timelines and universes and unite them.

This meant that certain version of heroes and villains ceased to exist, but it also brought fan-favourites like Miles Morales over from the Ultimate line and into the core Marvel canon.

It seems the movie will be doing something very similar and this will close the 20th Century Fox X-Men timeline, to bring forth mutants in the MCU.

Which brings us to 2028 and the next MCU saga.

Out of those three films, at least one of them needs to introduce the X-Men, even if it’s via a solo project for one of the team.

Let’s remember, Marvel isn’t going to forget about Shang-Chi, Doctor Strange, or the Young Avengers, so one or two of those films will carry on those franchises.

However, this would be the prime time for Marvel to focus on the mutants, perhaps even pairing them with existing heroes in some way, which makes sense as some are already classed as mutants.

Will legacy characters from older X-Men films feature? Who can say, if the multiverse is closed for business it’ll be unlikely unless they’re living in the 616 MCU universe.

Either way, 2028 is going to be a big year for Marvel and one that requires a huge gamble.
