Marvel's new MCU 'Avengers' line-up has an unexpected leader

The Avengers is getting a new leader in an upcoming Marvel project, and she’s the perfect choice for the job.

Now we’re not talking about the Avengers line-up in Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars here, that role will likely fall on the new Captain America, Sam Wilson.

Of course it depends on what happens in Captain America: Brave New World, which comes out later this year

Instead we're talking about the upcoming limited-time series Marvel Zombies, an animated spectacle that we’ve been waiting for since they appeared in Marvel What If?.. Season One.

In that episode we saw a team consisting of Spider-Man, Bruce Banner, Bucky Barnes, and other heroes surviving the apocalypse, though many unfortunately didn’t live to tell the tale.

The new series presumably picks up where the What If?.. episode left off, and Kamala Khan, aka Ms Marvel, might be the leader of the survivors.

In a recent interview Iman Vellani, who plays Kamala, shared more about her role in the series, saying: “"We've done the whole thing. It was amazing. It was so much fun .,, and Kamala is kind of the center of the show. They described it to me, it's like, 'She's basically the Frodo of the story.' And I was like, 'That's amazing.'"

Unfortunately it will be short-lived, as only four episodes of the series will premiere and its doubtful it’ll run for more seasons.

The episodes are quite chunky though, and when all of them are put together it’s said it’ll be akin to a feature film, so hopefully the story and animation reflect that.

Marvel Zombies will premiere on Disney+ towards the end of the year for Halloween, and who knows if it does well perhaps we will get that second season, or maybe even a live-action adaptation later down the line.
