MCU fans divided as hit series quietly killed off

Sad to see it go

Marvel’s What If…? is ending after three seasons, and as the final episodes come to Disney+ this month, fans are left divided on whether the show should have stuck around.

The Marvel mulitversal show which showed what could have happened in other universes, or if things went differently for certain characters, has been a favourite of many.

Because we got to see some crazy storylines and characters with new powers, it gave us a sillier side to the MCU but also plenty of originality.

According to Marvel’s Head of Television and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, he said it was time to end the show because “What If…? has always tied into the greater MCU and the Multiverse Saga. And for reasons that will become clear in the next couple of years, this was the right time to culminate the series from a story perspective.”

And fans are torn on seeing it go.

“Just bummed some characters never got to appear,” said one Redditor in a thread about the ending of the show.

It seems AnimeGokuSolos isn’t that bummed though, saying, “What If…? IMO is a wasted potential of the series, most of the episodes we had were mid at best.”

The theory of the multiverse ending with Avengers: Secret Wars now seems to be a lock in, as many are discussing.

One user comments, “So, the Multiverse is officially closing come Secret Wars. As for the cartoon...eh, it's just an excuse to end a rather uneventful show.”

There are some desperate to see it continue, knowing there are plenty of stories left. One fan said, “Can we please make a petition for them to undo this and save the show?”

It makes sense to bring it to a close if the multiverse is surely ending, but it’s sad to see a great animated project get shelved when good animation can be thin on the ground.
