The MCU is gearing up to get back to what it does best and the future currently holds dates for Avengers 5 and 6, The Kang Dynasty, and Secret Wars respectively.

While the story is up in the air since the controversies with Jonathan Majors and the studio may move away from using Kang as the primary villain, production is nearing closer and the Russo brothers are eyeing a return to direct the two films.

The latest Marvel trailer dropped recently and showed off the Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World

Given the flexibility of the two films as their story is so unsure, a familiar name has cropped up linked to playing Dr. Doom, the infamous Fantastic Four villain.

It seems Robert Downey Jr is rumoured to step into the metal mask as an alternate universe version of Tony Stark who, instead of becoming Iron Man, became Dr. Doom instead.

At this point, Dr. Doom has not been cast by Marvel and Disney and many actors have been linked to the role.

In the past, Robert Downey Jr has commented that he would return to the MCU for the right story.

He has said, “It's too integral a part of my DNA. That role [Iron Man] chose me," the actor said in a chat with Esquire earlier this year. "I always say: Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He's the house. He will always win.”

That would be a big bet though. It’s hard to imagine Tony Stark returning after his death caused so much heartbreak, even as an alternate version of the character.

Plus, fans are torn over the choice with some calling it a genius move and others saying they couldn’t see Downey Jr playing a villain when he was known as a pivotal hero.

We’ll have to wait and see what comes out over the coming months and more casting news is revealed.
