Elizabeth Olsen's MCU Return Hinges on Dream Scarlet Witch Plot

Recent comments hint at a reunion.

Elizabeth Olsen has hinted at her eventual return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it all depends on one specific scenario.

Olsen played Scarlet Witch in several MCU movies between 2014 and 2022, with her character remaining absent since last being seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Although not quite as iconic as Marvel mascots like Spider-Man and the Hulk, Scarlet Witch has climbed the ladder of popularity quite well over the years, and that’s largely in part due to Olsen’s portrayal of the character.

As fans desperately seek Olsen’s return to the MCU, a new comment made by the actress has possibly hinted at a way she might return to the franchise in a future film or television series.

As reported by Comic Book Resource, Olsen recently made an appearance at Spacecon San Antonio.

During this appearance, the actress stated that she’d love to return to the franchise, but only if it meant co-starring alongside Aubrey Plaza, who debuted as Lady Death in last year’s Agatha All Along.

Both Olsen and Plaza worked together in the film Ingrid Goes West from 2017, and from the press tour that followed that film’s release, it was pretty clear to see that the two had become good friends.

So, if Scarlet Witch was to return to the MCU, it would be under the circumstances that she’d share the screen with Death.

Which wouldn't be too wildly out of the realm of possibility. Agatha All Along is a spin-off of WandaVision, after all, so the two characters have a loose connection.

Will Scarlet Witch return to the MCU?

While nothing has been confirmed yet from Marvel regarding either character coming back, this at least leaves the door open for both actresses to step back into their super-powered shoes.

Lady Death was introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2024’s Agatha All Along.

The character’s appearance also brings with her the potential for more supernatural storylines and characters to appear in the franchise.

In the comics, Lady Death is largely associated with Thanos. However, this connection was erased in the MCU due to the character being introduced after Thanos’ death in Avengers: Endgame, and a new backstory was created using pieces of other Marvel lore.

However, despite the change in background, fans liked the character as she was written in Agatha All Along, and there’s hope that Plaza will be able to reprise the role again in a future film or television series.
