Deadpool 4 update from MCU star isn't what we expected

Well... damn

If you’ve been preparing for Deadpool 4, you might want to cool your jets because that film isn’t guaranteed.

As much as many Marvel fans delighted in Deadpool & Wolverine's chaotic mayhem, Ryan Reynolds may not return to play Deadpool.

Before you panic, Reynolds isn’t opposed to the idea, he simply believes that Deadpool serves a very specific function as a character.

Speaking with Deadline, the actor made it clear that the future of Deadpool isn’t an open and shut case.

Marvel Studios has big plans for its future. Take a look ahead below.

“Deadpool to me is a supporting character,” Reynolds explained.

Although this seems in contrast to the previous Deadpool movies, we also understand where Reynolds is coming from.

Typically, Deadpool is joined by a whole cast of characters, especially in Deadpool & Wolverine. Without them, who is Deadpool, and what is his purpose?

“He works great as a support [...] Centring him, the only you can do that is to take everything away from him,” continued Reynolds.

“You have to sort of rip everything he holds dear away from him. Now it makes him the underdog. It facilitates the ability for him to be the merc with the mouth and do all that kind of stuff. But you can’t do another movie where I take everything away from him.”

It wasn’t the update we were expecting.

Not all is lost, though. The MCU star spoke of his passion for Deadpool being part of an ensemble.

He said, “But I could maybe do an ensemble. I could do a movie that’s a four or five-hander. I have an idea for one that I really love, and I’m a little obsessed with, which I think is a good sign when you’re obsessed with something.”

When it comes to the MCU, it’s best to expect the unexpected rather than cling onto the assumption you know how it’ll all work out.

Not only is Deadpool a fine example of this in practice, but so too is Avengers: Doomsday.

It turns out the lead hero isn’t who MCU fans were expecting, further strengthening our belief that Marvel likes to keep us on our toes.

We can’t say that this is the end for Deadpool, merely that he’s not in a rush to return.
