The future of the galaxy far, far away is looking bright with multiple projects in the pipeline.
However, news of the next Star Wars trilogy may have just been revealed and it was not what many of us were expecting.
There is no denying that the Star Wars franchise consists of its fair share of incredible trilogies but it seems as though the next one will take a different route entirely and it will begin with Star Wars: Starfighter.
Directed by Deadpool & Wolverine’s Shawn Levy and set to star Ryan Gosling in the lead role alongside Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Flynn Gray, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Amy Adams and much more, Star Wars: Starfighter will be “an all-new standalone adventure” for the franchise.

According to Lucasfilm, Starfighter will feature "an entirely original story set in a period of time never before explored in Star Wars” and as a result, much of its plot is still under wraps.
However, according to a new rumour by insider MyTimeToShineH, Lucasfilm has plans for Star Wars: Starfighter to be the first movie in a brand-new trilogy.
Unlike previous Star Wars television shows such as The Mandalorian or Andor, it is currently unknown why Starfighter is the chosen one when it comes to receiving the trilogy treatment.
That being said, our insider claims that it will feature a “big cameo” which may just play a large part.

It seems as though the popular guess is that this “big cameo” will be Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker which makes sense considering she will be reprising her role in the upcoming The Rise of Skywalker sequel.
This especially makes sense judging by the recent Starfighter information:
"The main kid [in Starfighter] is Force-sensitive.
His mom is being played, as we said, by Amy Adams. She seems to be a Jedi.

Gosling is not a Jedi, but he's helping his nephew escape two evil bad guys who are chasing him across the stars. He has a mission he's on, given to him by Adams."
This could be referencing Rey and her Jedi Academy but of course, this is still only speculation as the plot of Star Wars: Starfighter still remains an industry secret.
Nevertheless, it seems as though Lucasfilm has high hopes for Star Wars: Starfighter and let us hope it does not follow in the footsteps of some more recent Star Wars projects such as The Acolyte.
Unfortunately, there is still a while to find out as Star Wars: Starfighter will be released in cinemas on 28 May, 2027.
