Starting off its life back in 2016 as a show on London’s West End, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child continued on the story of Harry Potter and friends after we last see them in the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II.
However, following years of transphobic comments and trans-exclusionist rhetoric by Harry Potter’s author J.K. Rowling, it seems as though a movie adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is no longer a possibility.
This news comes after director Chris Columbus was recently interviewed by The Times UK via Deadline.
The director, who is best known for directing Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, was originally eager to work on a Cursed Child movie adaptation after claiming that it would be “amazingly fun” back in 2021.

However, following J.K. Rowling’s hate campaign, it seems as though Columbus has understandably changed his mind over recent years.
“It’s never going to happen,” he revealed.
“It’s gotten so complicated with all the political stuff. Everyone in the cast has their own opinion, which is different from [J. K. Rowling’s] opinion, which makes it impossible.”
With Columbus himself and other Harry Potter stars such as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint vehemently disagreeing with J.K. Rowling’s views, it makes sense that none of them want to be associated with the Harry Potter world any more.

This is not the only comment Columbus has made on the future of the Harry Potter franchise as he recently spoke about the upcoming HBO television adaptation.
With the show not set to make any major changes to the original source material, including the movies, Columbus simply asked “What’s the point?”
Nevertheless, it seems as though a Harry Potter and the Cursed Child movie adaptation is no longer in the pipeline but who knows? Maybe another director will pick it up in the future.
