Born out of the same genre as Rust and Valheim, this Steam sensation has over 100,000 positive reviews and is on sale for as much as a vanilla matcha from Starbucks.
Survival games are quickly returning to fashion. Having once been carried by Minecraft, those of a certain age are now realising that it's the genre of game that was the true beauty of the block-by-block survival game, not Steve's archery skills.
One for the whole gang to enjoy, Sons of the Forest is being dubbed as the best survival game on Steam, and for good reason.
Mixing the aesthetic palette of something you'd see in fantasy RPGs like The Witcher with Rust's raw survivalist tactics and The Walking Dead's hungry enemies, Sons of the Forest is backed by over 100,000 players on Steam.

Sons of the Forest gets huge limited-time sale on Steam
Serving as the sequel (but not a follow-on, so its open to newcomers) to The Forest, this 2024 title is perfect for people who enjoy progression, whimsical fun, and high-stakes gameplay.
"Sent to find a missing billionaire on a remote island, you find yourself in a cannibal-infested hellscape. Craft, build, and struggle to survive, alone or with friends, in this terrifying new open-world survival horror simulator," reads the Steam description.
"Experience complete freedom to tackle the world how you want. You decide what you do, where to go and how best to survive. There are no NPC's barking orders at you or giving you missions you don't want to do. You give the orders, you choose what happens next.
"Enter a world where nowhere is safe and fight against a range of mutated creatures, some who are almost human-like, and others who are like nothing you have ever seen before. Armed with pistols, axes, stun batons and more, protect yourself and those you care for."

Now over two years old, Sons of the Forest boasts an 88 percent thumbs up rating across 117,000 English-speaking reviews on Steam, proving to be a massive hit.
Usually £25, a Steam sale has Sons of the Forest down to just £7.50, which makes it a no-brainer if the squad is looking for a cheap thrill while you wait for bigger AAA releases this fall.
The offer only lasts until September 7, though, so get cracking,
"Hands down the best co op survival, base-building, action exploration game ever made, there is so much to do, build, craft, explore and learn it boggles the mind. took me 30 hours just to complete the story," the most recent Steam review reads - we really didn't need to look long for a good endorsement.
"I don't want to even do a breakdown as it'll ruin the magic for a first-time player. Grab some friends and play this. You won't regret it," they added.
Others claimed that it also makes for a perfect game to get the whole squad involved with.
"I was begged to for some hours before I finally gave in and tried the game with friends," a second review said.
"I was sceptic. All of a sudden, I have more than 100 hours in the game, loving the songs coming from the radio. I have a huge village built around me and my friends, and the story is also insane. I found everything I love in games. Can't wait to see what the lore brings to us soon. LOVE IT!
A third added, "The atmosphere is really good, and it’s even more fun when playing with friends. There are many things to discover and plenty of freedom to play your own way. Definitely worth playing.
