Batman: The Animated Series hailed as 'best depiction of Batman in any medium'

Name a better animated superhero series than Batman: The Animated Series, we'll wait

Comic books will forever be the best depiction of just about any superhero franchise, but sometimes the same cannot be said when it comes to adaptations such as TV and movies, as well as video games.

However, when those adaptations get it right, it can often be knocked out of the park and then some. Take for example Rocksteady Studios’ Batman Arkham series. Since the arrival of Batman: Arkham Asylum in 2009, this set the benchmark of a new quality standard for superhero video games.

We’ve also had some fantastic Batman movies with the Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan adaptations leading the pack. It’s also fair to say that when it comes to animated products, DC mostly gets it right, especially regarding the legendary Batman: The Animated Series.

If it wasn't enough to have the late, great Kevin Conroy as the Caped Crusader, Mark Hamill also brilliantly performed as the Joker. Speaking of which, both Conroy and Hamill reprised their roles in Batman: Arkham Asylum along with Arleen Sorkin as Harley Quinn from Batman: The Animated Series.

Fans on Reddit have been sharing their love for the animated adaptation when Ann_4443234 asked “Is Batman: The Animated Series worth watching as an adult?”

“It's still my favourite depiction of Batman in any medium ever,” replied Benjamin_Grimm. “It’s still the best depiction of Batman outside of the actual comics,” agreed thats1evildude.

“Kevin Conroy is my favourite Batman. Everyone credits him with doing the "two voices" thing but the choice that is my favourite... Batman's voice is more in tune with Conroy's natural voice,” exclaimed DortDrueben. “Bruce Wayne is more of a facade.”

“It's probably the best superhero TV series to watch as an adult. It had a ton of class. That includes all those CW superheroes shows in the past several years,” said bravetailor.

Batman: The Animated Series is currently available to stream on Netflix in its entirety. So go and watch it now, even if you’ve watched it a million times already. Batman will respect you for it.
