One of The Legend of Zelda’s more disturbing characters has become even more cursed thanks to the tireless artistry of the fandom. You haven’t lived until you’ve seen Danny Devito as Tingle, everyone’s favourite but annoying flamboyant friend.

Tingle is a character that divides players. Much like Marmite, you either love or hate them, with some zealous fans going as far as to wish death upon the little green trickster. Although the tasks set by them can get annoying, Tingle is, by in large, a loveable character; The Legend of Zelda universe would be empty without his smiling face.

Let's visit a time when Tingle doesn't haunt us, like in Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

That was until we saw Danny Devito as Tingle in a fan-made poster for the recently announced live-action film. Don’t get us wrong, we love Danny Devito, but there’s just something unnerving about the way he smiles while dressed as Tingle. Can you feel it? It’s like the image is capturing your soul.

Devito does make an obvious choice for Tingle, though, as one fan reasoned, he fits the bill for every role – “Danny Devito could play all the roles and, honestly, it’d be great”. Other fans were offended at the idea of Devito playing Tingle, joking, “Ew, no. Danny DeVito should play Zelda. Leonardo DiCaprio should play Tingle.” Those are some bold choices, yet colour us intrigued.

Cast-wise, nobody has been announced as part of this project. However, that hasn’t stopped fans from being extremely loud about one thing: don’t cast Tom Holland as Link. Look, it isn’t that nobody likes Holland, it’s just that there are so many better suited actors to a role like this – casting Holland as Link would be like casting Chris Pratt as Mario. Oh, wait, that made that terrible mistake already.

On the plus side, there’s the amazing news that Hunter Schafer, who we can all agree would excel as Princess Zelda, is all for taking on the iconic role. If that actually happens, it would be even more shameful if the director then messed up casting by getting a dud Link. Maybe if they cast Devito it would soften that blow, but, if Tingle looks as unsettling as in that cursed poster, we politely say “No thank you”.
