The Last of Us star joins Call of Duty meets Cuphead shooter

The man becomes a mouse

I’ve had my eye on MOUSE: P.I. For Hire for several years now, so I’m thrilled that it’s just surfaced during Summer Game Fest.

Unfortunately, MOUSE: P.I. For Hire remains without a release date for now, but we do know that it’s set to arrive sometime this year, so that narrows things down a tad.

If this is the first you’re hearing of the title, allow me to bring you up to speed.

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire is an upcoming first-person shooter that is what you might end up with if you created a hybrid of Call of Duty and Cuphead.

The game’s art style is incredibly unique, and I simply can’t think of another FPS in existence that I could compare this one to.

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire is inspired by the classic noir rubber hose cartoons of the 1930s, and it comes from PlaySide Studios and Fumi Games.

If you’re familiar with Disney’s Steamboat Willie, then you’re thinking along the right lines.

Players will assume the role of private investigator Jack Pepper who resides in a city filled with crooks, criminals, gangs, and mobs, but it’s Jack’s job to clean up Mouseburg.

It isn’t just the art style that has a cartoonish quality; at points within the title, Jack will use a functioning ‘finger gun’ in place of a real firearm.

It’ll still take down your enemies though as if it was the real deal. Isn’t that such a fun idea?

It isn’t just the players who’ll be stepping into the shoes of Jack Pepper.

It’s been revealed during tonight’s showcase that The Last of Us star Troy Baker will be portraying the lead detective.

Baker, of course, portrayed Joel in The Last of Us franchise as well as BioShock Infinite’s Booker DeWitt and the titular character in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, to name just a few roles.

“I have been following the development of MOUSE: P.I. For Hire since it was first teased,” Troy said in a press release.

“Its art style, gameplay and 1930s film-noir aesthetic continue to win me over. I cannot wait to keep working with the team to bring Jack Pepper to life and hope to have some exciting things to share as we get closer to launch!”

The game is expected to land on both PC and console. Of course, we’ll be keeping an eye out for specifics as and when those are released.
