The Last of Us’ second season didn’t live up to the expectations of viewers, but those hoping Season 3 will be better may have cause for concern.
As far as TV adaptations go, I don’t think The Last of Us has done that badly; we’ve definitely seen worse. It’s certainly not perfect though.
That said, the way Season 2 ended was very accurate to the game, The Last of Us Part II, and Season 3 being all about Abby sounds exciting if it’s still going ahead as planned.
The Last of Us TV show’s home is HBO, which is owned by Warner Bros. Recently, Warner Bros confirmed that it’s currently considering deals of acquisition, with several big corporations reportedly eyeing it.

Warner Bros carries with it a lot of IPs, from DC superheroes to The Lord Of The Rings, to Harry Potter, and streaming of The Last of Us.

One business said to be considering an offer is Netflix, which spells bad news for fans of Warner Bros’ games as acquisition by Netflix could make future releases all-digital.
It also has implications for shows on HBO, as there's no saying exactly how a company like Netflix or Paramount could interfere with pre-existing projects should an acquisition go ahead; new executives could come in and demand major changes.

I can't see that being a good business decision, personally, but you can't rule it out.
Given the criticism The Last of Us has faced lately, it definitely doesn't feel out of the realm of possibility that someone could come in and attempt to make bold changes to boost its fortunes.
Of course, this is all just speculation and as far as we’re aware, Warner Bros hasn't accepted any acquisition bids yet.
Warner Bros has also made it clear that there’s no guarantee it’ll accept any offers. It’s merely considering them to determine what the best move would be going forward.
The Last of Us Season 3
As for The Last of Us Season 3, not much has been said about it yet other than it’ll obviously follow Abby’s story in The Last of Us Part II.

Something fans are particularly curious about is when the final chapter of The Last of Us Part II will be adapted. It involves both Ellie and Abby venturing to California, so many are wondering if it’ll be tacked onto the end of The Last of Us Season 3 or whether it’ll be saved for a fourth, perhaps shorter, season.
Personally, I think it’d work best as a special episode aired after Season 3 has ended, but who knows.
