The Last of Us Part 3 Plot Leaves Gamers Heavily Divided

It won't please everyone

The Last Of Us is a divisive video game series, more so after the second game launched back in 2020.

Five years later and not much has changed as fans are still bickering about the meaning behind the game’s story, its choice of protagonists, and where the series could go from here.

The Last Of Us Part 3 unfortunately hasn’t been confirmed yet either with Neil Druckmann seemingly unsure if there’s any story left to go for Ellie, and for the time being, Naughty Dog’s main priority is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

That hasn’t stopped the fans from theorising about a potential third game though, and many believe Druckmann is just playing coy and working on it in secret.

“What do you guys think the next, and likely final, Last Of Us game will be about?” asked Redditor bumper2001.

Responses were pretty mixed as by the end of The Last Of Us Part II, there were a few avenues that a third game could go down.

An Unexpected Alliance?

“Personally, I think it could revolve around Ellie and Abby being forced to team up in order to take down a new threat,” began bumper2001, “I don’t know who or what that threat could be, but since Ellie is still immune and therefore valuable, maybe some rogue scientists/doctors organisation could be looking for her and somewhere down the line it would also pull Abby in too.” It’s an interesting theory but the comments had different ideas.

“This Ellie and Abby team up idea people float around feels straight out of the MCU,” read on comment, “Giving them a threat to team up against feels a bit too simple."

They continued, “A big part of what makes TLOU2 so moving imo is how much depth they gave to its ‘villain’. It’s a challenging work and makes very abrasive choices with its narrative, but is all the better for it. So I hope they keep up with that complexity.”

Another fan said, “I saw a post about how TLOU1 was about hope, P2 was about revenge, and P3 should be about redemption and I always thought that was/would be neat.”

That would be an interesting to go in, but how can Ellie and Abby be redeemed after all they’ve done?

We have no idea but we do know one thing for sure. If The Last Of Us Part 3 does come out, it’ll probably be as divisive as the second game was.
