The Elder Scrolls fans may have just got a release date update on the legendary sixth installment, even if they didn’t realise it.
Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls 6 way back in 2018, and it’s wild to think we haven’t had many updates on the development since then.
With Skyrim being as popular as it is, you’d think Bethesda would have wanted to fast track its sequel pretty urgently, and yet here we are nearly 15 years later.

The news gets more painful—it seems we probably won’t be getting The Elder Scrolls 6 for a while, as a new release date update has been hidden in plain sight.
Last week’s Xbox Game Showcase had a whole host of new reveals, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Clockwork Revolution, and The Outer Worlds 2.
But despite fans hoping for it to show up, The Elder Scrolls 6 was a no-show.
However, Xbox boss Phil Spencer did tease the 2026 lineup for the publisher, referencing games like Fable, Forza, and a potential new Halo as releases planned for that year.

This statement alone should prove that we’re not getting The Elder Scrolls 6 until 2027 at the earliest, which makes it nine years since the game was originally announced.
The fact that it also didn’t appear in the showcase at all proves this, too.
So unfortunately, fans will have to wait just a bit longer. At least Bethesda released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered earlier this year, which should give you your Tamriel fix for the time being.
Hopefully we’ll actually get a proper reveal for The Elder Scrolls 6 at some point in the next year or so.

With Starfield post-launch development seemingly slowing down, it’s possible that even more hands at Bethesda are pivoting to the Skyrim successor.
