With The Blood of Dawnwalker readying up for a release later in the year, new previews are making the game sound a lot like Baldur’s Gate 3.
Rebel Wolves has finally revealed a release date for The Blood of Dawnwalker, hitting PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 on 3 September, 2026.
Following the release of a new story trailer, some new comments from Rebel Wolves make the game sound somewhere between Baldur’s Gate 3 and The Witcher.
And it makes sense why the game invites these comparisons. The Blood of Dawnwalker’s dev team is made up of many former CD Projekt Red developers, like Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, Daniel Sadowski, and Bartłomiej Gaweł.

One particular aspect of the game that Rebel Wolves has capitalised on is this idea of maximising player agency by giving them the tools to choose how to roleplay as their character.
As Tomaszkiewicz tells GamesRadar+: "I love the games that did this in the past, and I loved what they did with Baldur's Gate 3, for example, with this – kind of mixing this narrative experience and maximizing your freedom of choice: what do you want to do, which plot lines do you want to do or not do, and how does the game world react to this? I think this is very exciting."
He adds that “you can have a super well-crafted, very emotional, cinematic experience, but if you're basically like an observer with extra steps, to me, it's not as exciting as really participating and leaving my mark on the game world.”

The game is likened to a kind of “narrative sandbox”, where it has the freedom to tell these stories featuring characters and events that you become invested in, all while maximising player choice within those stories.
In addition to Baldur’s Gate 3 though, Tomaszkiewicz also references Gothic, an RPG franchise which was a heavy inspiration on The Witcher and other role-playing games of the time.
“I feel tired with games that are way too big,” he says. “I don't have that much time, and I prefer more condensed experiences, but I still enjoy open worlds.
“One of my favorites from the past were the Gothic games, for example, and they were much smaller worlds, but they were so dense with detail, quests, and characters, and it felt like you really inhabited that space. This is something I really enjoy also.”
From the sounds of it, The Blood of Dawnwalker will probably be a smaller experience than a game like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but you should be able to expect deeper gameplay and narrative choices akin to Baldur’s Gate 3 and Gothic.
With 2026 also bringing us Crimson Desert, the Fable reboot, and the remake of the first Gothic, it sounds like RPG fans are eating well with the amount of new titles coming out to sink all our free time into.
The Blood of Dawnwalker releases on 3 September, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
