One of the most popular modes of the EA Sports FC series is ‘Career’, and over the years, it’s getting ever closer to replicating the Football Manager sim experience. This year's mode in EA Sports FC 27 looks like it could be the best iteration yet.
For the most part, as it was when the series was under the FIFA umbrella, the Ultimate Team mode often seems like it's getting the biggest marketing push from Electronic Arts, and understandably so, because that mode is a massive cash cow with all sorts of in-game purchase enticements. Though it has gotten more consumer-friendly over the years, we can speak about that in an upcoming preview.
For the topic of this preview, it's all about what is arguably EA Sports FC’s second most popular mode, Career. As alluded to earlier, each year the career mode, especially when taking on the role of a manager, gets deeper and is a great streamlined alternative to SEGA’s Football Manager series.
Career is potentially a mode that you can play forever, because the game will keep going with each new season as long as you continue to play it, and unlike Ultimate Team, you don’t have to spend real-world money to build a dream team of the best players. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the best features and improvements coming to the Career mode in EA Sports FC 27.
Best features to get excited about in EA Sports FC 27’s Career mode

Overhauled transfer market
Rival teams will (or should) have realistic transfer recruitments. We’ve all played Career and thought to ourselves, “How has that team signed that world-class player?” While it can bring a chuckle, seeing a newly promoted Hull City sign a prime Erling Haaland, it’s something of an immersion breaker. EA is also collaborating with TransferRoom to make in-game transfer activity more believable. Rival teams are also expected to improve their teams in areas that need improving, rather than just signing a random player for the sake of it.
Advert
EA aims to make transfer and contract negotiations more dynamic. In EA Sports FC 26, those negotiations are very basic, so it will be great to see more personalities injected that might reflect the real-life attitudes of the players and managers you’re negotiating with. Rival teams are said to be more competitive with players that you might be after, too. In theory, this should make every career run very different from the last.
We won’t know for sure if this will be implemented well in the game until we all get to play EA Sports FC 27, but EA is looking to improve the AI to make teams behave closer to their real-life counterparts.

More dynamic player ratings
We all love finding an unknown wonderkid, helping develop their skills, and seeing their overall rating improve over time. In EA Sports FC 26, those ratings are mainly influenced by how intense you assign their training, the quality of coaches, and playing games.
However, ratings in EA Sports FC 27 will have more of an impact on current player form. So, the better they perform, the better their stats will increase. If they underperform, those stats may stay as they are or even drop. Player morale and fitness are also said to play a role in the stats department.
What’s more, form will have more of an impact on the potential transfer value. It’s also very likely that in different Career saves, much like rival teams, depending on the dynamic activity, a player's progression or regression could be different with each playthrough. This should add even more replayability than ever before
Scouting could play an even bigger role
It’s probably fair to say that the scouting in EA Sports FC 26 isn't as important as it should be. For the most part, it’s simply used to uncover a player's rating to help determine if it's worth putting a bid in and how much that bid is worth. EA wants to have more of a focus on scouting, the player's development potential, and coaching methods to improve that player. It sounds like unearthing the next wonderkid might take a little more effort, but that extra research could pay off big time.
Improved gameplay and tactics
The gameplay and tactics won’t be exclusive to the Career mode, as this will pretty much impact all modes in EA Sports FC 27. However, every year, EA makes a big song and dance about improved player AI and deep strategy tactics, and this year's entry will be no exception.
It’s something that happened more so in FC 26, but we can expect AI teams to not only adjust tactics mid-game depending on how it's going, but those teams might adjust the way they approach the season depending on current events. Hopefully, tactics will matter more than ever in EA Sports FC 27.
It remains to be seen whether or not better AI and deeper tactics will massively improve the Career mode, but if it does, with the added factor of players and teams behaving like the real-life version, EA Sports FC 27 stands a great chance of having the most immersive Career mode yet. Only time will tell.
EA Sports FC 27 will be released on September 25, 2026, on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch consoles.
