Surprise Marvel Game Freebie Has Players Praising Devs, 'Insane Value'

A lovely gift

Marvel gamers are getting an incredibly generous freebie this month, simply for existing and supporting Marvel games.

They’re often hit and miss but Marvel puts out some truly great video games from time to time, and more are on the way like Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra and EA’s Iron Man, provided they’re not cancelled of course.

My favourite at the moment though is Marvel Rivals, which added recently my favourite Marvel character, Daredevil, in Season 4 and is about to add another one of my favourites, Gambit, in Season 5.

If you haven’t played the game in a while there’s more reason to jump back in that just the Cajun X-Men character joining the game’s roster, as developer NetEase Games is celebrating the first-person hero shooter’s one year anniversary in a big way.

Anniversary celebrations begin on 27 November and will give players the opportunity to earn 2,500 credits to spend on in-game skins and other cosmetics.

Emphasis on “earn” there, the studio isn’t just handing them over to you but I’d imagine all you have to do is log in, play some matches and maybe complete some challenges. Pretty standard stuff.

The news has gone down well with players, many of which have praised NetEase Games’ generosity and threw a few jabs at Marvel Rivals’ competitor Overwatch.

“What insane value. What other game is doing something like this?” commented one fan, and another added “Overwatch could never.”

Others celebrated by planning what skins they’re going to buy, of which there are many.

If you’re an Assassin’s Creed fan I’d recommend checking out one of the upcoming skins for Gambit, which is literally just Ezio Auditore da Firenze.

Skins, skins, skins

There are plenty of other skins joining the existing line-up, many of which take inspiration from the comics, MCU films and others being completely original designs from NetEase Games.

Of the few that have been shown off already one of the standout ones is a new skin for Ultron, which has him sporting the same design seen in Marvel’s What If?.. Season 1 when he obtains all six infinity stones and ascends to god-hood.

There’s plenty more where that came from too, so prepare yourselves for Season 5 of Marvel Rivals dropping on 14 November, with the first anniversary celebrations kicking off on 27 November in just a few weeks.

Don’t miss out on your freebies!
