Ezio Auditore da Firenze is the best-known protagonist of the Assassin’s Creed series, being Ubisoft’s poster boy and returning for several games and spin-offs.
His reputation definitely precedes him but Assassin’s Creed games aren’t the only places you’ll find him, with one his weirdest cameos being a Marvel game of all things.
Marvel Rivals is about to launch its fifth season, and it’s all about love. Rogue and Gambit, the star-crossed lovers of the X-Men are the two new additions to the game’s roster with Gambit dropping first at the beginning of the season and Rogue coming around the season’s midpoint.
Gambit is a Strategist and uses his psychokinetic powers to deal out damage whilst also healing and powering up his teammates, and like other Marvel Rivals characters he’ll have a variety of skins for fans to purchase and equip.

One of these skins is called Thieves Guildmaster, described by Netease as “a master of charm, deception, and power.”
It’s very clearly modelled after Ezio from Assassin’s Creed though, with the in-game description even poking fun at the similarity to Ubisoft’s IP. It reads: "Bravo, Remy! You still fight like an assassin more than a thief. Which are you?"
The skin will drop alongside Gambit on 14 November, which is only a couple of days away at the time of writing.

A fun fact about this new season is both Gambit and Rogue are voiced by A.J. LoCascio and Lenore Zann respectively, both of whom voiced the characters in X-Men ‘97 with Zann voicing Rogue in the original X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon.
Zann will also be reprising the role in the upcoming second, and likely third, season of X-Men ‘97, though it’s unknown if LoCascio will rejoin the cast as well.
What’s next for Marvel Rivals?
Marvel Rivals has been crushing the competition as of late with its well-made seasons, with one of my favourite additions to the game being Daredevil who dropped partway through Season 4.

More characters are already being teased though, with the Season 5 trailer giving us a first-look at Cyclops who’ll presumably be joining the roster later, and in-game lore also hints at Deadpool making an appearance at some point.
Over Halloween the game also launched a limited-time PvE mode inspired by Marvel Zombies, and the developers haven’t ruled out additional PvE encounters being added to the game throughout its life, teasing a confrontation with Ultron at some point.
