Stray is PlayStation Plus' most popular game of 2022

Stray was this year's most popular Extra/Premium tier PS Plus game - it's been revealed that players collectively meowed one billion times.

It wouldn’t be December without everyone’s end-of-year stats for anything and everything flooding the internet. Earlier this week, PlayStation’s 2022 Wrap-Up released, which has revealed stats both for individuals and the PlayStation community as a whole.

I know for a fact that I’m not alone with my top-played game for this year - I wasn’t surprised in the slightest to see Elden Ring appear at number one, although the number of hours played did also serve as a reminder of how much time I spent stuck on the various bosses. Oops. Other than that though, easily one of the best parts of the Wrap-Up was the page detailing Stray’s global stats, which also confirmed that it was PS Plus’ most popular Extra/Premium tier game of the year.

Take a look at some adorable real-life kitties reacting to Stray below.

As for the rest of the list, as PlayStation LifeStyle reports, Stray was followed by Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ghost of Tsushima, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Red Dead Redemption 2. All fantastic choices, no doubt, but no one could get enough of the kitty. That said, Stray was a day-one release on PS Plus (around the same time as a free trial being available, at that), so that will have definitely helped matters.

With their powers combined, gamers sunk 635K basketballs, travelled 814K miles in buckets, ruined 12 million things, and meowed one billion times. I wish I knew how much I contributed to the last number, because I did not stop mashing that meow button for the entire adventure.

There’s no doubt that Stray was deserving of its wins at The Game Awards - it might not have been able to snag Game of the Year from Elden Ring, but it still managed to take home awards for Best Indie Game and Best Debut Indie Game.
