PlayStation Plus newest free game has left gamers seriously divided

It's worth a go if you have a subscription, I suppose

PlayStation Plus recently gained yet another day one launch, an area of the service that’s steadily increasing.

PlayStation Plus’ day one launches don’t quite rival those of Xbox Game Pass, but the service is certainly all the better for the brand new offerings it does have, in most instances anyway.

Stray, Tchia, Sea of Stars, The Plucky Squire, Animal Well, Dave The Diver, Tchia, and Lost Records: Bloom and Rage are some of my personal favourites from the past couple of years.

The latest addition though, FBC: Firebreak, isn’t exactly garnering rave reviews across the board.

Developed and published by Remedy Entertainment, FBC: Firebreak is a first-person shooter set within the Control universe.

It’s the studio’s first multiplayer game and, honestly, they may be better off sticking to what they know.

Over on Metacritic, the game secured a score of just 64 which pales in comparison to Alan Wake 2’s 89.

If you do want to give the game a whirl though, you can do so via PlayStation Plus’ extra tier at no additional cost but be warned, the game has garnered incredibly mixed responses from players as well as critics.

“People are a little hard on FBC: Firebreak,” began decadesdiving. “This has its bugs and hiccups, but it’s not a bad game. The combat feels fine to me. The maps are solid; environment is as you would expect from Remedy and that is on point.”

“It’s okay which, unfortunately, isn’t good enough for a live-service game when there’s multiple others competing for your time,” replied MrConbon, making a very valid point.

“It’s bare bones. At the moment, at least for me, it’s a 6/10 game. Destroying post-it notes over and over again isn’t exactly compelling either,” said hourles.

“Another live service fail, when will they learn?” Brilliant-Ranger-356 asked.

I do think we’re slowly coming to the end of this live-service heavy era.

Don’t get me wrong, live-service titles aren’t going anywhere, and I’m sure both new flops and fails will continue to emerge.

That being said, I do believe we’ll see less and less single-player studios making the switch to multiplayer.

From Remedy to Naughty Dog, or Bend Studio to Rocksteady, we’ve seen so many powerhouses waste time and resources on live-service flops.

If FBC: Firebreak isn’t for you, a new batch of games for PlayStation Plus’ essential tier will be unveiled tomorrow.
