Who doesn’t love a free game? Well, Steam is currently giving away a 2020 'masterpiece' for absolutely nothing.

2023 isn’t short of new releases with gripping and spectacular stories like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Hogwarts Legacy, and of course the generation-defining Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to name a few. But, sometimes it’s worth going back a few years to visit superb games you might have missed when they were originally released.

The beautifully crafted narrative-adventure game that we called “narrative excellence” Tell Me Why, is currently available as a free download to all Steam users. Created by the same studio that made Life Is Strange, DONTNOD Entertainment, Tell Me Why follows twins Tyler and Alyson, who share supernatural abilities, as they set out to unravel mysteries from their upbringing.

Take a look at Tell Me Why in action below.

Similar to Life Is Strange, the player can make choices throughout the game that will alter the story and change the dynamic between Tyler and Alyson, who need to use their abilities to solve puzzles and unlock memories from their childhood.

Steam reviews for the game are overwhelmingly positive, with thousands of reviews praising the title’s decision-based gameplay, character performances and world/story design. “I think this game was beautifully made, and it pulled me in right from the start … can't even put into words how I truly feel about this game. I'm definitely really excited to play the other chapters and eventually get to the end. Highly recommend it," one player wrote.

“I know this game just became free (temporarily) so I'll write a review for the new people, it is an amazing game with beautiful graphics and an immaculate story I highly recommend playing it," another added, while one fan said, "The game features a good story with some choices actually having an impact on the outcome. The main mystery is a little obvious, but doesn't take away from the overall experience.”

If you’re a fan of narrative-driven single-player games with a compelling story, Tell Me Why is definitely worth a go, especially for the low, low price of £0. All you’ll need is a Steam account, and to make sure your PC meets the performance requirements.
