Steam: delisted adventure RPG is suddenly free to download and keep

An adventure game we thought had left Steam forever has returned as a free download.

A popular adventure game that was delisted on Steam a while back has returned as a free download.

There are plenty of free games for PC gamers, but it's certainly rare that a title we thought was gone forever makes a return - much less as a free download.

The 2014 first-person adventure Betrayer was first released on Steam in 2014. However, as per Delisted Games, Betrayer was removed from Valve's digital storefront in 2021. Developer and publisher Blackpowder Games has remained silent on social media and the game's Steam community forum since 2015. Since nobody has been around to support the title, it's been delisted.

This is, of course, all too common an occurrence in the digital age. But where a lot of games might have vanished from the ether forever, digital storefront GOG has announced that Betrayer can now be found on its own dedicated GOG store page here. Better yet, it won't cost you a penny.

The game's official description: "Betrayer is a first person action adventure game that takes you to the New World at the turn of the 17th century.

"The year is 1604. You sailed from England expecting to join a struggling colony on the coast of Virginia. Instead, you find only ghosts and mysteries. What catastrophe blighted the land and drained it of color and life? Where are the settlers and tribes who lived here?

"Clue by clue, you must piece together the story of what befell this doomed settlement and find a way to set things right. You will be hunted by corrupted Conquistadors and ravening shadows as you explore an expansive wilderness in order to trace the brief, tragic history of the colony and search for survivors."

While I'm not certain that Betrayer's disappearance two years ago caused much upset (it's a fairly obscure game), it's nice to see it get a second chance at life. Hopefully now it can find an entirely new audience.
