Starfield is making one huge improvement on Fallout 4

Starfield will be taking inspiration from the post-apocalyptic RPG, Fallout 4.

It’s hard to believe that the launch of Starfield is merely a few weeks away as Bethesda fans fail to contain all excitement for the upcoming sci-fi RPG.

Starfield has been two decades in the making, according to Bethesda during its recent 45-minute ‘Starfield Direct’ presentation. What was once a dream, that vision has come to fruition with the game recently going gold.

Check out the Starfield gameplay trailer below!

Hoping to take some inspiration from the likes of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Bethesda will intend that Starfield keeps us entertained for many years to come. In order to do so, as it has done many times before, Bethesda will take inspiration from previous projects, to make new projects the best it can be and Starfield will be no exception.

With that in mind, Starfield is making one huge improvement on 2015’s Fallout 4. As reported by GamesRadar, during a recent Bethesda Q&A session on Discord, Starfield’s jail system will be more like Skyrim than Fallout 4’s commonwealth. In Fallout 4, it was essentially lawless with no law system in place. However, in Skyrim, you could be sent to jail for committing crimes or surrender for a small bribe.

“The Settled Systems is more like Skyrim than Fallout 4's Commonwealth in that regard. Ya bancha criminals!” said lead design on Starfield, Emil Pagliarulo. “There's civilisation, there's government, and there are laws. And in a couple of cases, we actually explore the themes of crime and punishment in our futuristic universe.”

Obviously, we won’t know exactly how the jail/criminal system will work in Starfield until the game is released. That being said, we do know that there will be NPC bounty hunters, so perhaps that could play a big part. Only time will tell.

Starfield will be released on 6 September 2023 for PC and Xbox Series X|S, unless you’ve pre-ordered the Premium or Constellation Edition, in which case, your release date is 1 September. Starfield will also launch on Xbox Game Pass.
