Starfield fans are now concerned about the state of the game after the abysmal Redfall release.

Starfield fans are now concerned about the state of the game after the abysmal Redfall release.

The vampiric co-op multiplayer shooter Redfall from Dishonored and Deathloop developer Arkane released this week, and let’s just say that it launched way below the studio's high standards. When the first Dishonored game was released in 2012 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, it arguably put Arkane Studios on the map with Metacritic scores in the high 80s to low 90s.

Take a look at Starfield in action below.

Dishonored is a first-person shooter inspired by the likes of BioShock, which gave the player a high level of freedom in how they approached situations, and interact with NPCs with an arsenal of supernatural powers at their disposal. Dishonored would later be re-released for PS4 and Xbox One, bundled with all previously released DLC in 2015 before the arrival of its equally fantastic sequel in 2016. In 2021, Deathloop arrived and everything that Arkane had learned from previous games was implemented into yet another game considered to be an all-time classic.

Don’t get us wrong, even before Redfall arrived, Arkane hasn't been without its missteps, as proven by the woeful Wolfenstein: Youngblood in 2019, co-developed with MachineGames. Still, with one blip on the often consistent resume of the developer, hopefully, history would not repeat itself. That was until Redfall ruined what should have been a joyous launch.

Redfall’s woes are frustrating because hidden amongst its bland open world, uninspired cinematics and bugs is an epic co-op multiplayer game not far removed from Dishonored. As reported by Comicbook.com, despite being handled by a different studio under the Bethesda umbrella, fans are now concerned about the upcoming sci-fi RPG Starfield.

Starfield needs to be the best game ever or I feel like a lot of people are going to start selling their xbox,” said content creator Dreamcast Guy. IGN journalists Destin Legarie and Ryan McCaffrey also shared their concerns and the pressure that will likely build leading up to the release of Starfield. “Honestly... with the state Redfall is in, I'm very worried about Starfield,” tweeted Destin. “EVERYTHING is riding on that game at this point,” replied McCaffrey.

Windows Central managing editor Jez Corden also expressed his concern regarding the upcoming sci-fi RPG. “The pressure on Starfield to deliver for Xbox is absolutely immense,” he said. It’s important not to get carried away, especially as already mentioned, Starfield is being developed by a different studio, Bethesda Game Studios. That being said, if the pressure to deliver wasn't already hindering the launch of Starfield, it most certainly is now.

In related news, the Xbox Games Showcase has been officially announced for 11 June, and immediately following that event, will be the Starfield Showcase. At the time of writing, Starfield will be released for PC and Xbox Series X/S on 6 September 2023.
