'Star Wars Jedi: Survivor' Ties In With A Disney Plus Series

Everyone knows you can't build a massive franchise without that sweet, sweet synergy.

Just imagine if a fan consumed one piece of content and it didn't have a reference to that thing from that other piece of content. Unthinkable! The fans would lose their tiny minds, possibly soiling themselves in the process and smearing fecal matter all over the walls in protest.

Fortunately, the Star Wars universe is well aware that when you watch one of its shows or play one of its games, you want to be reminded of the other adventures that are available for you to purchase. As such, it sounds like the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will tie into to the ongoing Disney Plus series Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The recently announced sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order takes place five years after the original game. The Empire is stronger than ever, and continuing to hunt down and wipe out the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy. As it turns out, Jedi: Survivor takes place at exactly the same time as Obi-Wan Kenobi, with both Cal Kestis and Obi-Wan on their own missions while desperately trying to avoid detection.

It had previously been hinted that the game and series would ultimately crossover in some way, with Cameron Monaghan's Kestis making an appearance alongside Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan.

Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live a few months back, McGregor teased that there could be a connection. “All of the storylines have to match up," he said. “You can’t have some fact in a video game that doesn’t match up to the movie.”

McGregor's specific reference to the video games, coupled with Disney's rampant desire for franchise synergy and the fact that the new show and upcoming game are set during the same period, surely makes a crossover a no-brainer. We'll have to wait and see how Obi-Wan Kenobi develops in the coming weeks, but I wouldn't bet against Kestis popping up in some capacity.
