'Star Wars: Jedi Knight Remastered' Available To Download Now

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II has finally received a remaster a whopping 24 years after its release - and it's free to download.

How are we holding up after yesterday’s new Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer Star Wars fans? If you’re anything like me, you’re probably still dissecting the trailer frame by frame. If on the other hand you’re in the mood for even more Star Wars news, you’ve come to the right place.

If you cast your mind back to 1995, you may remember the Star Wars: Jedi Knight video game series making its debut with Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces. Well, the aptly titled follow up Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II was re-released to GOG.com in 2015, and now one talented modder has single-handedly taken on the task of overhauling the entire game.

If you haven't yet seen the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer, check it out below.

To celebrate Star Wars Day, modder GeneralTantor released the ‘Star Wars: Jedi Knight Remastered’ mod. Seeing as it was released in 1997, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II has some obviously outdated graphics and whilst GeneralTantor’s mod is no Unreal Engine 5 remake, it certainly makes the game look pretty damn good.

The mod file includes JKGFXMOD, the Jedi Knight Neural Upscale Texture Pack and an enhancement mod. According to GeneralTantor, the file will allow “the game to work on new computers” whilst also improving “performance in certain scenarios,” and the best part is, it’s free to download.

GeneralTantor also worked on HUD scaling, improved graphics, 32-bit colour, gamma correction, ambient occlusion, and parallax mapping. A 50-minute-long demo and tutorial was uploaded to YouTube and just within the space of a single frame, you can see the vastly improved graphics.

The Star Wars Jedi Knight series may not be making an official comeback outside of the land of mods, but there are plenty of great Star Wars games on the horizon. There’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2, Quantic Dreams’ Star Wars Eclipse, an unnamed project at Ubisoft, and the Amy Hennig led project at Electronic Arts. Us Star Wars fans are really thriving, huh?
