The last Star Wars sequel you’d expect just got announced, even though we literally just heard that a different sequel to the same project was cancelled last week.
Last weekend’s San Diego Comic Con was packed full of Star Wars announcements, but I don’t think any of them were more of a shock than today’s example.
We got news of a new General Grevious prequel series, a proper look at the upcoming Maul: Shadow Lord animated series, and a bunch of details regarding Star Wars comic books… but they hid the strangest announcement until the end, it seems.
As revealed during the Lucasfilm Publishing Panel (per the official Star Wars website), there’s a new follow-up to the Ubisoft game Star Wars Outlaws on the way, which is awfully strange timing on their behalf.

That’s because news broke last week of the cancellation of a different Star Wars Outlaws sequel, which was apparently in the early stages of production (prior to being canned by Ubisoft).
I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume that Star Wars Outlaws: Low Red Moon was in some way meant to tie into the Star Wars Outlaws sequel.
Plus, the way author Mike Chen has been speaking about it online makes it sound like it’ll follow on in some way from the first game, too.
“As for Jaylen, if you've beat Outlaws, you know THE BIG TWIST”, Chen revealed in a post on Bluesky.

“This traces back that history. The book takes place in two parts. The first part is 19 BBY, months after Order 66. The second part is 10 BBY, months before Solo. ND and Jaylen alternate POVs the entire book.”
Well, we’ll have to wait a while to see exactly how it’ll all tie in, as Star Wars Outlaws: Low Red Moon won’t drop until February next year. I wonder if the timing of that release could have had any bearing on the sequel to the game…
