Darth Maul is making his long-awaited return in a new show coming to Disney Plus next year, and a sneak peek has appeared on social media.

One of the best parts of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Darth Maul, was done dirty with his first appearance, being built up to become this huge menace, and he was literally cut down in front of us.

Fans at the time, and even now, saw that as wasted potential and wanted more from the character who looked as evil as a Sith should be.

Thankfully, he was resurrected through the animated shows, then made a sneaky cameo on the big screen in Solo, and now he’s getting his very own show courtesy of Disney.

Over on Twitter, a little preview is showcasing our first look at the new show, with Darth Maul brandishing his double-ended lightsaber.

The new animated series is being created by Dave Filoni, with Sam Witwer reprising his role as Darth Maul, and it will follow Maul as he attempts to rebuild his criminal empire, likely showing the moments when he popped up in Solo.

It’s great to see the character make a comeback. He was easily one of the best things in the animated shows, bringing a level of danger and fear to the stories.

Filoni is known to love the character of Maul, so it’s no shock he’s telling more of the Sith’s past, and from what we can see in this image, he’s back to his nefarious life.

The style seems to match The Clone Wars and Rebels, and so far fans seem pleased with what they can see.

Hopefully, we’ll get to see more in the coming weeks, after San Diego Comic Con has wrapped and Disney begins showing off new projects to a wider audience.
