A new Star Wars game called Battle of Hoth has just been announced with a release window of Summer 2025.

If you think of some of the most iconic scenes from the original Star Wars trilogy, the Battle of Hoth is probably up there.

Not only is it an explosive set piece to kick off The Empire Strikes Back, but it also sets up each of the big dilemmas hanging over the characters' heads for the rest of the film.

Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back was released in 1980.

The Battle of Hoth has been represented in games before, most notably in Star Wars: Battlefront and its sequels.

Now, Days of Wonder is set to publish a new board game based on the battle. The company has previously published games like Ticket to Ride and Heat: Pedal to the Metal.

Star Wars: Battle of Hoth is designed by Richard Borg and Adrien Martinot.

It's intended for 2-4 players, aged 8 and up, and has an average playtime of 30 minutes. So don't expect games to last all evening.

The official game description reads, as per the announcement:

"This summer, discover STAR WARS: Battle of Hoth board game, a fast paced miniatures game based on one of the most iconic scene of the Star Wars Galaxy. Will you command the ferocious Imperial army or the courageous Rebel forces?

"In this new strategic board game, immerse yourself in an epic adventure where you can relive the Battle of Hoth across 17 unique scenarios, with the option to include 6 charismatic leaders to influence the conflict, or dive deeper into the conflict by playing the 2 dynamic multi-scenario campaigns. Easy to learn and quick to play, it offers dynamic battles that keep players engaged from start to finish."

As for the characters that'll turn up as the "charismatic leaders", we imagine characters like Han Solo, Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker will be involved here for the Rebels.

On the Empire side, you can almost certainly expect Darth Vader.

Star Wars: Battle of Hoth will release later this summer, but a concrete date has not been set yet.
