The sequel trilogy may not have appealed to every Star Wars fan, but there were plenty of narrative threads that were exciting and worth expanding upon beyond what we get to see in the movies, particularly those relating to returning characters from the original three films.
Whilst many felt that Luke's fate, and what he had been up to in the intervening period after defeating Palpatine and the Empire, was mishandled, Leia's arc was better received, and showed her immense qualities as a character as she got older.
Her connection to Rey as a character was explored, but adding more depth to that relationship would actually be quite an exciting step forward for both of their developments, and in very good news, that's what we are about to get.
As confirmed at New York Comic Con, a new book entitled Star Wars Legacy is on the way, detailing what takes place for both Rey and Leia between the events of The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.

In a short blurb detailing exactly what fans can expect, it sounds as though we're going to get a lot more backstory about Leia's own problems in her leadership role.
"After barely escaping the First Order on Crait, Rey and the Resistance are struggling to rebuild. Her friends need the last Jedi more than ever, but Rey feels alone and overwhelmed. Jedi tradition is built on masters and apprentices, and Rey’s teacher is gone," it reads.
"Leia Organa tries her best to train Rey in the ways of the Force as Luke did for her so many years ago, but Leia’s knowledge is limited, Rey’s lightsaber is broken, and the specter of Kylo Ren and regrets from the past haunt them both. How can Leia pass the torch when she herself is unsure of the way?"
The book is also set to include some intriguing new locations, including a lost Jedi temple on the planet Tython and a new group of as yet, unnamed refugees who join the struggle against the First Order.

Star Wars: Legacy is written by Madeleine Roux, who you may know from her original Asylum series, as well as her work on novels in other major franchises like World of Warcraft and Dungeons & Dragons.
The only small snippet of bad news is that you will have some time to wait before you can get your hands on it, with the novel set to release on 28 July, 2026.
