The Star Wars drought is almost over. It’s been well over two months since Obi-Wan Kenobi drew to a close, but Star Wars: Andor is on the horizon. The show is set to debut on Disney Plus on 21 September with a juicy three-episode premiere. The fun doesn’t stop with Andor though. There are plenty of Star Wars shows on the way including The Acolyte which has just cast a Squid Game star.

As reported by Deadline, actor Lee Jung-Jae has been cast as the male lead in The Acolyte. The Squid Game star is best known for portraying Seong Gi-hun in the hit Netflix drama. Jung-Jae’s role in The Acolyte is being kept under wraps but his casting marks the actor’s first major American studio project.

Jung-Jae joins the previously cast Amandla Stenberg and Jodie Turner-Smith. The Acolyte is said to be a mystery-thriller which explores the final days of the High Republic era and the emergence of the Dark Side.
In the Star Wars canon, an acolyte is thought to refer to the apprentices of Sith Lords. Generally, the word means assistant or follower. We know that there is a strict ranking amongst force-sensitive individuals, ranging from lord to apprentice to younglings so this does make sense. The series certainly appears to be an exciting one to keep our eye on.
