Despite only making his live-action debut in recent years, Darth Plagueis still remains one of the most formidable characters in the Star Wars universe.
Armed with the ability to cheat death and create life, Darth Plagueis was a Sith Lord first mentioned on-screen back in 2005’s Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
It is here that his student, Palpatine, revealed that he had killed his master in his sleep and taken his role as Sith Master.
Despite his presence lurking in the background of many various Star Wars projects, Darth Plagueis had never actually appeared in a live-action show or movie.

Well, that was until 2024.
Thanks to Disney+ The Acolyte, Darth Plagueis was seen on-screen for the first time on the very final episode of the show.
Seen lurking from the confines of a cave, the infamous character was a shocking reveal for fans but unfortunately, The Acolyte was cancelled after just one season and so, once again, Plagueis has gone back to the shadows.
However, a discussion recently took place over on r/StarWars where one user asked the following, “Who would you cast as Darth Plagueis?”

“I’ve been reading Star Wars: Darth Plagueis, and I started to think about who I would cast as the Sith Lord.
I’d choose John Malkovich. I’m curious to hear other people’s choices.”
With Plagueis existing in the Star Wars universe for many years, it is no wonder that the majority of fans have always had somebody in mind to take on the role.
That is why the comments soon filled up with people’s fancasts.

“Ralph Fiennes,” one user suggested.
“He has lots of experience playing both nose-less and nose-having characters so he’s the logical choice, since Plagueis seems to be both.”
From Bill Nighy to Benedict Cumberbatch and everybody in between, the suggestions came in thick and fast and so if Darth Plagueis ever made it to the big screen again, it seems as though his actor will have a lot to live up to.
