Spyro 4: Mystery Of The Dragon appears online ahead of official reveal

Spyro 4: Mystery Of The Dragon appears online ahead of official reveal

Could we finally be getting a new Spyro game?

The original Spyro The Dragon is one of the most beloved PlayStation classics there ever was, sitting firmly alongside the likes of Crash Bandicoot in the early 90s.

Since that time, the love for Spyro has grown ever more as it made its way onto other platforms as well as PlayStation for even more fans to enjoy. However, it’s been quite some time since we’ve had the pleasure of enjoying a brand-new Spyro entry.

Check out the Spyro Reignited Trilogy trailer below!

The last release of this beloved series was Spyro Reignited Trilogy released in 2018 which included remasters of the original games that arrived on the PlayStation from 1998 to 2000. Yet, in terms of actual new games, we’d have to venture a decade prior to the remastered trilogy with The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon in 2008.

So you can bet your bottom dollar that fans of the Spyro series are itching for a new game and when you consider that we’ve not had a new one in 15 years, I think it’s fair to say that its release is well overdue. Thankfully, however, it seems that those patient fans may be about to get their wish.

Posted in a thread by Redditor sleepytruffle, concept art and alleged details were shared from an individual named Nicholas Kole, who has previously worked on the likes of the aforementioned Spyro: Reignited Trilogy as well as Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, were shared on his personal website.

The website apparently details that the new game will be called Spyro 4: Mystery of the Dragon. While there have, of course, been multiple Spyro games since Spyro 3: Year Of The Dragon, the 4 in the new title implies a back-to-basics approach similar to Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time.

Reportedly, both Spyro and Cynder will be playable characters and the game will feature a multiverse scenario perhaps inspired by Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Yet, both Spyro and Cynder do not meet in the game, but their stories will seemingly be connected with their interactions remaining separate.

What’s more, it is rumoured that an announcement trailer will be revealed on 5 October 2023 and Spyro 4 will be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Obviously, at this time, these rumours are unconfirmed, so we should take them with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.

Back in April 2023, a Spyro 4 tease was spotted online and it sent fans wild. So hopefully, when we combine previous rumours and the most recent, there will be no smoke without fire and publisher Activision will put us all out of our misery soon with an official announcement arriving in the coming weeks.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
