Skyrim fans 'unironically' excited for Unreal Engine 5 remaster following Oblivion

Oh, you're joking, not another one?!

In the wake of the recent Oblivion remaster, Skyrim fans are now asking for similar treatment.

Earlier this week, Bethesda released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered unto the world.

It's pretty much the same game we all played in 2006, but rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 for modern graphics along with a few other quality of life improvements.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is out now for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.

The Oblivion remaster is exciting as it also seems to be a proof of concept for what the inevitable Elder Scrolls 6 could look and feel like.

Still, even though it seems like The Todd is done with remastering Skyrim, fans are now asking for that game to receive a similar treatment as the Oblivion remaster.

"I would unironically pay for a Skyrim Remaster similar to Oblivion's," wrote one fan on X (formerly Twitter). "Make it happen Todd. Release Skyrim again."

Skyrim was first released in 2011. Bethesda then remastered it for the next-gen in 2016 with Skyrim: Special Edition. It was remastered a third time in 2021 when Anniversary Edition came out for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

While signs seem to point to Fallout 3 being the next Bethesda game to receive the remaster treatment, porting Skyrim to Unreal Engine does feel like something the studio could look into at some point down the line.

X user "The Manlet King" echoed these sentiments, writing: "Skyrim remaster like Oblivion BUT: Put back ALL cut content," and "Add ability to join currently non joinable factions (Silverhand, Forsworn etc), Add defenses/walls and outdoor markets in the minor cities, Add features from Oblivion (spell crafting)."

It sounds like Manlet wants a new Elder Scrolls game rather than a Skyrim remaster, but there you go.

As is the case with remasters, you don't want to add or change too much as it becomes more of its own thing. At that point you're looking at it being more of a remake.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is probably still years out, but at least we know Bethesda is still hard at work on it, as per a new tease in the latest release.

As for remasters, hopefully we could get a Morrowind re-release first before we touch Skyrim again.
