Is that... Luke's lightsaber?

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim players have just discovered that Bethesda hid a not so subtle Star reference in the game… right next to a different Star Wars reference that is actually pretty hard to spot.

There are loads of great little easter eggs and references to other properties hidden in Skyrim. For instance, probably the most famous one is the fact that a pickaxe from Minecraft is just hidden away at the top of the Throat of the World.

The thing is, most of them are well known at this point, including today’s example… it’s just that I had no idea this reference actually contained a completely different reference to Star Wars, right below it.

You remember the scene in Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back where Luke gets stuck upside down near Echo Base and dismembers a Wampa in the process? Of course you do, which is probably why this hanging skeleton Bleakcoast Cave is one of the most famous references in Skyrim.

The thing that I never noticed is that there’s actually a sword right next to the corpse, which means that you can quite literally wield Luke Skywalker’s weapon in the game.

It’s not a lightsaber, sure, but hey– slap some enchantments on that bad boy and put on a robe, and you’re in business.

However, the funniest part about this entire reference is… it’s broken.

I mean I always did think it was weird that it’s only half a skeleton, but according to one commenter in the thread, it’s supposed to be a whole skeleton.

Classic Bethesda, even the references in this game are bugged. Oh well, maybe we should just think of it as lore accurate? I guess the Wampa that attacked him ate his entire torso before it got bored. At least we get a cool sword out of it.
