I truly believe that Skyrim modders have transcended to another plane of creativity. It’s been well over a decade since Skyrim was released, yet modders are still finding new things to bring to the game and I simply ask myself, how? We’re not just talking about simple rendering touch-ups either.

One recent mod allows you to get NPCs to call you by your real name which is a marked improvement on ‘Dragonborn.’ If you’re really bored, they can also call you something ridiculous like xX_dragon_killer_420_69_Xx. Fellow modders have overhauled NPCs and turned the game’s map into a futuristic cyberpunk-themed city. The latest mod to take the Skyrim world by storm though, has given everyone’s favourite sidekick Lydia a new makeover.

Skyrim has given us over a decade of entertaining content. Take a look at some of our favourite wins and fails from throughout the years.

Modder reindeer51 refers to the mod as ‘The Ultimate Lydia.’ It allows you to switch up Lydia’s hairstyle in-game and mid-playthrough as she now carries a selection of wigs in her inventory. You know, just the essentials.

Lydia can choose between a casual loose style, a battle-mode ponytail, or an action-ready samurai bun. The mod also equips Lydia with Whiterun guard armour and adapts her animations to female ones.

Speaking about the mod, reindeer51 said, “This mod solely overhauls Lydia and hey, I'd like to think it does something pretty 'revolutionary' here. She can be switched between three hairstyles! Yep, that's right! This is accomplished by having Lydia carry two 'wigs' in her inventory. [...] Works with all mods including NPC overhauls. Just place ‘Ultimate Lydia’ below all other NPC overhauls in your load order and overwrite other mods' loose files to ensure this mod takes precedence for Lydia only.”

If you too would like the “ultimate” Lydia as your companion, you’re in luck because the mod is available to download for free on Nexus Mods. All battle ready soldiers know the first rule of fighting is to have three varying hairstyles ready at your disposal. Duh.
