Oh lawd, it’s actually happening. Earlier this week, it was reported that a playtest for skate. (the official name for Skate 4) could be upon us at the start of July (which it now is, hello), and lo and behold, that turned out to be true. Nice one, insiders.

As reported by GamesRadar+, the news was confirmed by the official Skate Twitter account, along with a brand new trailer featuring gameplay footage - although be warned, it’s still clearly early in development. The devs themselves have described it as “pre-pre-pre-alpha” footage, so don’t get upset when you don’t see quite as many polygons as you were hoping for. Okay? Okay.

Take a look at the brand new gameplay trailer for skate. right here.

“We're still working on it, but it's time for you to see what we've been up to. Become a skate. insider and sign-up for playtesting,” the devs wrote, along with the link that I’m sure unfathomable numbers of people have been clicking on since last night in the hopes of getting onto their boards as soon as possible.

To sign up, you’ll need to be at least 18 years old, and the skate. insider FAQ page says that players will be invited “based on varying factors defined by our goals for testing at that time in development”. As such, there’s no guarantee on how soon players will be let in - it seems it’ll be a gradual process.

At the moment, you’ll only be able to access the playtest on PC, via Origin, although the official page also notes that it’ll eventually move to other platforms, too (you can give your platform preference when you sign up to the insider programme). As you’d expect, those who get let in to the playtest will be under strict instruction not to share any information outside of the “appropriate channels”, so if you wanna make sure you don’t miss anything, be sure to sign up yourself here.
