Rush Hour 4 is coming, says Jackie Chan

Speaking at the Red Sea Film Festival, Jackie Chan revealed that Rush Hour 4 is happening - he's discussing the script with the director.

It’s been a hot minute since the last Rush Hour movie was released. Ross LaManna’s action comedy series kicked off in 1998, and starred Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker as Chief Inspector Lee and Detective James Carter (respectively), taking down crime in Los Angeles and Hong Kong.

Given that Rush Hour 3 released in 2007, you’d be forgiven for thinking that that was the end of the series, but apparently not. As reported by Deadline, while speaking to the audience at the Red Sea Film Festival yesterday (8 December), Chan revealed that after all these years, Rush Hour 4 is actually happening.

Meanwhile in the world of film, Doctor Strange 2 recently won The Movie of 2022 award at the People's Choice Awards - take a look at the trailer below.

“We’re talking about part four right now,” Chan told fans at the festival. He didn’t confirm who the director will be, but said that he was going to meet with them that evening to talk about the script.

Speaking further about the Rush Hour series, Chan explained that before starring in the 1998 film, he’d been planning to quit his Hollywood endeavours since he’d not been receiving many interesting roles: “I tried so many times to go to Hollywood, but after that, I said no more Hollywood because my English is not good, they’re not my culture, they don’t like this kind of action,” he said.

As such, he actually took some convincing to go for Rush Hour in the first place: “My manager said ‘look, there’s a script, and it’s called Rush Hour’. I said ‘no, Hong Kong police? I’m not going to do it,’” Chan explained. “He said ‘Jackie, why don’t you try last time’. I said ‘okay, this is the last time.’”

Rush Hour 4 isn’t the only film that Chan is involved in right now, either. He revealed that he’s actually planning on making “less action stories, more love stories” going forward, and with this in mind, he’s currently prepping a “drama film for women”. He said: “I hope very soon it can release here. It’s a drama film. And it’s made for women. I hope one day you can see it.”
