Rockstar Games could be working on new projects as we speak, and clues found in Red Dead Redemption 2 are giving us ideas as to where things are heading.

At the time of writing Rockstar is months away from releasing Grand Theft Auto VI, though the fear now is it’ll get delayed into 2027.

Knowing the esteemed developer though once GTA VI is out in the wild and a few post-launch patches/the online mode has gone out it’ll likely see the bulk of its team moving onto the next big project.

Now this could be Red Dead Redemption 3, it could be Bully 2, or perhaps it’ll jump straight into Grand Theft Auto VII, we have no idea whatsoever.

That said Red Dead Redemption 2 might hold some answers, as I’m sure I’m not alone when I say I want Rockstar’s next big project to be something completely new that we haven’t seen before. Fortunately some of the side-content and Easter eggs in Red Dead Redemption 2 have laid the groundwork for what could be future games/spin-offs.

As highlighted by Reddit user Lonely_hra420, Rockstar has devoted a lot of time into fleshing out the history of its worlds in recent years. Red Dead Redemption 2 in particular features a variety of remnants and relics from the past, and it all has the potential to inspire a new game.

There are cave paintings, runes, trenches left by the American Civil War, and either the decomposed corpse of a knight.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is the earliest game in Rockstar’s timeline but there’s nothing stopping the developer from going even earlier with its next game.

Now that’s not to say that any point in history would make for an interesting game. Just because Assassin’s Creed managed to make an exciting game set during the Civil War doesn’t mean every developer can do the same, even Rockstar.

There is certainly potential though, and with the Red Dead Redemption series running out of road it’d make sense to kick-off a brand-new series for fans to enjoy. The only way to do another Red Dead game would be to make it another prequel, and I don’t think that’s what fans want.

Personally when GTA VI launches I’ll be holding out hope that we get a sequel to Bully, as it’s been more than long enough. That said if Rockstar turns around and reveals something we’ve never seen before I’ll be just as happy.
