The Grand Theft Auto community is once again reaping the rewards of another major leak, exposing cancelled DLC for GTA V that’s believed to be getting repurposed for GTA VI.
It may be far too early in GTA VI’s life to be talking about DLC, but this news is too big to not share.
Around 200GB of GTA V source code was shared online revealing a lot of cut content that never made it into the final game, including the long-awaited return of Liberty CIty.
A Liberty City expansion was rumoured for a while, with many believing it’d be the setting of a GTA Online storyline, but it never came to pass.

Those rumours have since been confirmed thanks to the leak, which has revealed an unused and expanded map of Liberty City, which you can see below thanks to Reddit user aniketos69. The original image was shared by TJGM on X.
It may only be a basic map of squiggly lines, but it’s a glimpse at what could have been an excellent expansion for GTA V. Hopefully it’s finally used in GTA VI.

How could Liberty City appear in GTA VI?
The last time Rockstar Games released a proper story expansion was in 2010 with the release of Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, so I wouldn’t hold your breath if you’re expecting GTA VI to finally end that hiatus.
However, there’s been a lot of speculation as to what GTA VI’s secret second location could be. In GTA V it was North Yankton for both the opening mission and later on in the story, and in Red Dead Redemption 2, the player spends a good chunk of time in Guarma.
We’re not saying it’s a certainty, but given the leaks, there’s a good chance Liberty City will be a secondary setting during the main story. Given the theories around Jason being some sort of undercover cop or federal agent, perhaps there’ll be a flashback segment of time he spent in the city before his assignment in Leonida.
Failing that, the location will probably be used for the next iteration of GTA Online. Personally, I’m starting to wonder if Liberty City will be the new, sole setting of the online mode.
Liberty City is big, but it’s not as big as the Leonida map we’ll get to explore in GTA VI, meaning it might lend itself better to online missions. As fun as it’ll be to explore, I don't think many players will want to cross the country for a simple drop-off mission as they were bad enough in GTA V.
There’s a wealth of possibilities to consider if they’re even worth considering at all, and hopefully it won’t be long until Rockstar’s vision for the future is laid out in black and white.
GTA VI lands on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19.
