Despite bringing us some of the best survival horror games of all time, even Resident Evil can swing and miss on occasion.

Developed by Capcom, Resident Evil fans have had it good since the series' inception in 1996, though it’s not always been sunshine and roses for the Japanese studio. For every Resident Evil 2, there’s a Resident Evil 6 and a game that missed the mark for many fans is Resident Evil Zero.

Don't get me wrong, as a devoted fan of the series, I still enjoyed Resident Evil Zero, which was originally released during the same year as the critically acclaimed Nintendo GameCube remake in 2002. Resident Evil Zero had some cool ideas such as dual protagonists with Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen that players could switch between on the fly.

Yet for whatever reason, many fans of the Resident Evil series just couldn't gel with Resident Evil Zero as well as those grotesque genetically modified Leeches that featured in the game. That’s not to say that Resident Evil Zero lacked the potential to be a great game, it just missed the mark of the standards previously set by this iconic series.

However, according to a recent rumour, it seems that Resident Evil Zero may be getting another chance with a full remake and it’s set for an official reveal soon by Capcom. The recent rumour is courtesy of an industry insider and leaker of information, Dusk Golem.

Recently, Dusk Golem claimed that Resident Evil 9 is being officially revealed soon and will be released early next year, however, that no longer seems the case. Then another industry leaker, DanielRPK claimed that the original Resident Evil is getting another remake.

Now in a more recent tweet, Dusk Golem not only claims that Resident Evil 9 isn't being revealed this year but that we're instead getting the highly requested Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake and the aforementioned remake of Resident Evil Zero.

Responding to a reply on Twitter, Dusk Golem claims that the rumoured Resident Evil Zero remake is being developed by K2 & M-Two, the same studio that developed the 2020 Resident Evil 3 remake and provided support for Capcom Dev 1 on last year's Resident Evil 4 remake. K2 & M-Two also developed the Resident Evil 4 DLC, Separate Ways.

Of course, we should take all rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, I am a believer in there being no smoke without fire, so hopefully, there is at least some truth to the rumours.

As for the most recent entry in the series, the Resident Evil 4 remake and its Separate Ways DLC is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
