It’s widely agreed upon that Bethesda boasts one of, if not the, best modding community out there.
Whether it’s for an Elder Scrolls or Fallout title, Bethesda-related creations are constantly dominating sites like NexusMods.
There is one thing I’ve always wondered.
You see, Bethesda is known for taking its sweet time; The Elder Scrolls VI was first revealed back in 2018 and hasn’t received an update since, and it’s assumed Fallout 5 won’t arrive until 2030 or beyond.

Does Bethesda boast such an impressive modding community because fans would otherwise wither away from the content drought?
Or is it just a lucky coincidence for the studio known for its lengthy development cycles?
Either way, that’s the truth of it, so if you’re one of those yearning for Fallout 5, you may be better off loading up Fallout 4 and nabbing a few mods instead of pining away for franchise news.
‘Cutting Room Floor - Holotapes’ is one of the mods you might want to consider.

Developed by NexusMods user Glitchfinder, this one essentially seeks to restore cut content.
“Did you know Fallout 4 has some unused holotapes? Well, I suppose you probably assumed as much,” the synopsis reads.
“The base game and DLC have so much cut or otherwise unused content that of course a few holotapes made it into the pile too, right? Between cut golf courses and vanished questlines and missing vaults, it's only natural that smaller bits and pieces fell through the cracks. I noticed that a few of them were actually salvageable while working on another project, and decided to give it a go.”
As you can probably see, this isn’t a hugely game-changing mod, but it is a subtly interesting insight if you want to see little snippets of the developers’ original vision.

Of course, sometimes there’s a reason why things end up on the cutting room floor, but a lot of the time, it’s all down to a lack of time, which means great ideas never see the light of day.
The mod restores nine unused holotapes and holotape shaped keys, which are distributed “in places or on persons where their presences makes sense”.
If you want to know exactly what they entail, that’s detailed on the mod listing page but I fear reading it will ruin the fun of playing through this creation.
As a NexusMods project, this is totally free, so if you’ve got Fallout 4 on PC, try it out.
