GTA 6 Publisher Confirms Remakes We've Waited Years For

I nearly forgot about these!

GTA VI publisher, Rockstar Games and Remedy Entertainment, confirm that we’re still getting the remakes we’ve been waiting years for.

In April 2022, Rockstar Games announced that the first two Max Payne games are getting full remakes, and it’s fair to say that this news delighted fans, whether you’re a returning fan or someone new.

What’s more, Alan Wake and Control developer Remedy Entertainment is the studio handling the remakes. Which is very fitting, as it's the original developer of the first two iconic entries.

Max Payne was first released on the PlayStation 2 in 2001, and mixed with its noir-inspired storytelling, comic book presentation and high-octane action, it instantly won over fans.

Max Payne also kick-started a massive trend that would continue to this day, and that’s the gameplay mechanic dubbed “bullet-time”.

Inspired by John Woo movies, “bullet-time” slows down time and allows you to dramatically dive through the air, firing guns and shooting bad guys. It’s a lot of fun.

Then we were treated to Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne in 2003, followed by Max Payne 3 in 2012 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Unlike the first two games in the series, the third outing was developed by Rockstar Studios.

However, it’s been well over three years since the big announcement, and it’s been very quiet when it comes to updates on the Max Payne remakes, and yes, that’s plural. Both games are being released as a single entity.

Understandably, some fans may have been concerned that Max Payne 1 + 2 remake had entered the dreaded developmental hell. Thankfully, we’ve had a promising update.

As reported by The Vice, during a recent investor report, Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that it’s been working closely with Rockstar Games.

“The Max Payne 1 + 2 remake project continues its progress and remains in full production,” read the report.

“In the second quarter, the team built on steady momentum from earlier in the year. Collaboration with Rockstar Games remains close and productive, ensuring alignment as the project advances toward its next major phase.”

The elephant in the room is that we still have no idea when the Max Payne remakes will be released, but at least we know that Rockstar Games and Remedy Entertainment are currently collaborating.

As always, we’ll update you once we learn more.
